Car # 7
was my 1955 BelAir Hardtop 6 cylinder automatic.
I had this one my last year in high school.

Not the most "FUN" car I ever owned but nice.
Car #8 was my only Mercury.
A 1953 Mercury Coupe with leather interior. Automatic with a smooth running flathead V-8.

I had graduated from High School and gone into the Air Force. I was first stationed at Lackland
Air Force Base in Texas, then shipped to Denver for Munitions training, where I was finally allowed to
have a vehicle, my folks had sold my 55 Chevy so they brought me this nice Mercury from their
home in California. It was just too "NICE" for this kid. Not a COOL car in 1962!
SO, I replaced it with...
Car # 9... my 1936 Ford Pickup

These photos were also taken while I was at Lowry Air Force base in Denver, Colorado.
This beautiful little "rod" cost me a whopping $600 and it had a great running 48 Merc flathead,
Fenton heads, headers and Tri-Power with 4-11 gears. It went! I loved this little pickup.
As you can see, I had an accident. On my way to my next assignment, Hill Air Force base in Ogden, Utah,
I hit a deer! It really messed it up and the parts were almost impossible to find to fix it.
Car # 10 was my First '57 Chevy. My first real "car love affair"!

I had finally saved up a $1,000 in cash and went home to California on leave. My parents drove me
to Los Angeles to go car shopping and I found a beautiful 1954 Red-Orange Corvette with a
6 cylinder engine and automatic trany and this beautiful 57 Chevy. I spent all day going back and forth
between the two trying to decide on which one to buy. Each was priced at $1,000! As you can see
I chose the 57 Chevy. It had a 283 Power Pack, 3 speed on the column with overdrive and it
ran like the wind.
Unless you've owned a 57 Chevy yourself, it's hard to explain how these cars effected
people. There was just something about a 57 Chevy that always stuck with you. The feel, the sound,
the power. It was like no other car, before or since!

This was also the beginning of another life-long LOVE AFFAIR. That's when I found
the love of my life JoLeen. She was just 16 and still in High School, living in Ogden, Utah near
where I was stationed at Hill Air Force base.
Here we are, Jo at age 16 and me at age 20.

Unfortunately, the story of my 57 Chevy ends in pain. While I was overseas in Viet Nam
someone stole my beautiful 57 Chevy convertible and I never saw her again.
I also lost my beautiful JoLeen, as well, while I was in Viet Nam but as you know, I was
finally (after a 30 year search) able to get her back again!
Here we are today, 35+ years later!
